- I am currently living and working in Kameoka, Japan which is about 30 minutes by train outside of Kyoto. I work for the Lifelong Learning Division of Kameoka City Hall as a Coordinator of International Relations. This basically means I translate a lot. And I get to plan/participate in international events in my city.
My Favorite Engrish

Amazing/Ridiculous Things about Japan
- They consider me a half...ie. biracial...because my Dad is from England
- $40 cantaloupe and $25 for 25 strawberries.....
- Using 3 blankets (one of which is electric), wearing a sweatshirt, socks, and sweatpants to bed seems normal....when only a few months ago I had a fan next to my bed and still melted.
- Christmas music starts being played on November 1st...Jackson 5 "I saw mommy kissing Santa Claus" for 2 months. ugh.
- Seasonal flavored KitKats (grape, Brown Sugar, Mocha McFlurry, etc)
- The vending machines switch from selling cold coffee to hot coffee based on the season
- In line with the item below, they are considered one of the most technologically advanced nations (almost all cell phones have tv and internet), but at the office all their stuff is old. On tv they use cardboard cut outs instead of graphics......?
- They have countless types of heating devices to keep warm in winter but DON'T INSULATE THEIR HOUSES...central heating, people....c'mon.
- International travel is considered cheaper than travel within the country
You Know You Have Lived in Japan Too Long When...
- You are trying to text your friend about how you got a free sandwich and you type in "sandowichi" and it takes you a moment to realize your mistake. 8/6/09
- Things like "Let's enjoying" start to sound like proper English.
- You sit on a toilet seat in Korea and are shocked that it isn't heated.
